Citing it as a 'faithful reproduction' of the original USAAC B-3 jacket, the original was mainly made for bomber crews who flew at higher altitudes, designed to keep them warm with a full shearling lining. The large shearling collar acts as a guard against the wind, with a double buckle design allowing you to cuff and secure the collar for extra warmth.
